Getting a removal vehicle to your door in Antwerp
The kerb and the zone are two permissions
The paid parking ban holds the space. Driving into a low-traffic or pedestrian zone needs a separate free permit from the same service, dienst Tijdelijke Verkeerssignalisatie, at least two working days ahead and before nine in the morning. An address inside a zone needs both, and the pavement permit on top where a lift is used.
How the parking ban is granted
Apply as a tijdelijk parkeerverbod met parkeerborden — a temporary parking ban with signs. Standard requests close five working days before it starts; the urgent route runs to two working days, lodged before nine in the morning. The city puts the signs out two days ahead and notes the plates already standing there. The permission is to load and unload, and you may not put up signs yourself.
The low-emission zone, as it stands
The lage-emissiezone covers the binnenstad and the Linkeroever district, and it applies to vans and lorries as much as to cars, foreign plates included. A foreign vehicle is registered with the city by the day after it first drives in, and that one registration covers the Flemish zones. Brussels runs a separate scheme on its own timetable. The tightening planned for this year was withdrawn before it took effect.
Window times, cameras and bollards
Inside a low-traffic or pedestrian zone, loading is allowed only during the posted window times, the venstertijden on the zone sign; where none are shown, permission is needed every time. Newer bollards, the verdwijnpalen, drop for a plate that has been granted access and stay up for everything else. An unauthorised entry brings an automatic GAS fine by post.
A verhuislift on the footway
A verhuislift — an external furniture lift — standing on the footway is a temporary occupation of the pavement, granted for two calendar days at most. If it also takes parking bays, that is the parking ban as well. You place this signage yourself and must leave a clear walking route past the machine. Tell us which window the load has to reach.
How this shows up in your quote. The quote asks about each end of the move. Tick “parking suspension or permit required” or “narrow street” for the Antwerp end and each is priced as its own line, along with the floor and whether there is a lift. A furniture hoist is not part of the online price: show us the stairs and windows at your survey and, where one is needed, it is priced then.
Where we deliver in and around Antwerp
Diamond District — Hovenierstraat, Schupstraat, Rijfstraat
Flats above the diamond offices beside Antwerpen-Centraal. The police agree the move before any permit is lodged, and deliveries run between seven and ten in the morning.
Het Eilandje — Cadix, Montevideo, the MAS
The Mexicobruggen stand open for shipping through the middle of the day, so a Cadix or Montevideo address loads early or late. Camera zones either side.
Zurenborg — Cogels-Osylei and around
A protected townscape of listed houses, typically two or three bays wide. Narrow frontages, ornate facades, and a lift pitched with care.
Berchem — Groen Kwartier
The Groen Kwartier is one of the camera-controlled zones, so the vehicle needs its access permit before it turns in.
Linkeroever
Inside the low-emission zone, but a lorry over three and a half tonnes cannot use the Waaslandtunnel, so it comes round by the ring or the toll tunnel.
Zwijndrecht
Not an Antwerp district: permits here come from Beveren-Kruibeke-Zwijndrecht, signed by the mayor, on seven calendar days' notice.
Ekeren
Antwerp International School sits on the Veltwijcklaan here, out beyond the zones and reached from the A12 rather than through the centre.
Wilrijk
Neerland and Oosterveldlaan, by the university hospital, are both camera zones; the times posted on the sign decide when a vehicle may turn in.
The road from the UK to Antwerp
Route: Calais by Eurotunnel or ferry, then the A16 to Dunkerque, the E40 through Bruges and Ghent, and the E17 north-east into the city — about 130 miles from Calais.
The E17 arrives on the left bank of the Scheldt, and a lorry over three and a half tonnes is barred from the Waaslandtunnel, so it crosses by the Kennedytunnel on the ring or the tolled Liefkenshoektunnel. The ring itself is a building site: the Oosterweel Bypass is being switched into use in stages.

When to move
The city's own closed days
The service that issues the parking bans keeps its own closure list: public holidays, bridging days and a collective shutdown between Christmas and New Year, when nothing is processed. That list runs longer than the national holidays, and it is what breaks a five-working-day lead time in December. Check it before fixing a date in that week.
Whitsun at Spoor Oost
The Sinksenfoor, a travelling funfair, takes over Park Spoor Oost in Borgerhout for about five weeks from the Whitsun weekend. The park is a camera zone in any case; during the fair the streets around it carry the fairground traffic too. The dates are set each year, so check them before choosing a Borgerhout week.
Ten Miles Sunday
On the Sunday of the Baloise Antwerp 10 Miles, usually in April, the Kennedytunnel closes in one direction for most of the day and E17 traffic is sent round by the E34, the R2 and the Liefkenshoektunnel. A delivery on the ring that morning is not worth attempting.
Paperwork once you arrive in Antwerp
Reporting the address
Report your new address to the city within eight working days of moving in; the declaration is online and free, and the record it creates is what evidences the residence transfer behind your customs file. A neighbourhood officer, the wijkagent, then calls unannounced to confirm you live there, and a second declaration in the meantime only slows things down. Afterwards an appointment updates the chip on your eID.
Arriving in Belgium for the first time
Someone who has never been registered in Belgium lodges a residence application at the city's Loket Migratie by appointment, rather than a simple change of address. A D visa does not remove that step: you still report to the city to be put on the register at your address. British citizens outside the Withdrawal Agreement are third-country nationals here, and the Immigration Office decides the route.

Moving from Antwerp back to the UK
Antwerp sends people home from the port, the diamond trade and the chemical cluster. Leaving is a declaration as well: you report the move abroad to the city, which e-mails the bewijs afschrijving buitenland, the model 8 that closes your entry on the register. A late declaration bites from the day you make it. Someone on a posting who means to return can register a temporary absence instead.

Can I apply for the parking-ban permit myself from the UK?
Yes. Anyone can lodge the application, and it does not require a Belgian identity card — an A-Profiel, the city's own digital account, can be opened with an e-mail address, and payment is made online at the end. The city asks that the tool is opened on a desktop browser. Tell us which route you are taking, because the same street may need the zone permit too.
Will my British-plated van get into the Antwerp low-emission zone?
Yes, provided it meets the access criteria and is registered with the city. Foreign plates must be registered, at no charge, by the day after the vehicle first drives into a Flemish zone, and the one registration covers Antwerp and Ghent. A vehicle that does not meet the criteria is down to a limited number of day passes a year. The criteria did not tighten this year; Flanders looks at them again in 2027.
My new flat is in the Diamond District. Is that different?
Yes, and it starts before the permit. The local police diamond section must agree the move in writing first, and only then can the parking-ban or pedestrian-zone application be lodged, with that permission attached. Deliveries are allowed between seven and ten in the morning. Vehicles entering register with ADA Security beforehand, garage entrances stay clear, and cash-in-transit and emergency vehicles keep their run of the street.
How do I get the lorry into a pedestrian street in the old centre?
With the free short-term access permit, applied for at least two working days ahead and before nine in the morning. The application names the number plate, and the trailer's if it differs, and gives a reason; moving house is one the city accepts. Permits are issued per day, and more than one day only with a thorough justification. Without it, the cameras issue a fine.
Is a street in Borsbeek or Zwijndrecht handled the same way?
Borsbeek yes, Zwijndrecht no. Borsbeek became the tenth district of Antwerp at the start of last year, so the city's parking-ban system covers it. Zwijndrecht belongs to Beveren-Kruibeke-Zwijndrecht, a separate municipality in East Flanders, which wants seven calendar days' notice and issues a permit signed by the mayor. Brasschaat, Schoten, Mortsel, Edegem and Kontich are separate municipalities too, each with its own rules.
