Transport and customs documentation for a one-bedroom part load from the UK to Marseille cost £2,394 – £3,261, and for a three-bedroom house £5,352 – £7,376. Packing, transit cover and stairs or parking at either end are priced on top, from your own answers. Transit is 2–6 days door to door via Eurotunnel Folkestone–Calais.

Marseille reserves kerb space under a single framework order, and the City puts up none of the signs itself. Pedestrian areas are excluded from that form and go to a different service. Much of the centre is trois-fenêtres blocks, the three-window type of the nineteenth century: one flat per floor, and a stair wound round one column.

How your quote and booking work

The price you see online is an estimate worked out from your own list. A free survey turns it into a fixed price, and a deposit holds your date. How the price is worked out

Start my Marseille quote
  1. Get your estimate — about three minutes

Pick your home size or list what is moving item by item, and watch the vehicle fill as you go. Choose a shared load or a vehicle of your own, tell us about stairs and parking at both ends, and your price appears with every line shown. We ask for your name, email and phone number before we show it, and email you a copy.

  2. Have a free survey, and the price is fixed

Pick a weekday slot online for a video call and walk us round your rooms, or send photos on WhatsApp; near our depots we can visit instead. It costs nothing and commits you to nothing. Once we have surveyed, we do not revise the price upward on moving day.

  3. Secure your date with a 25% deposit

Before the survey or after it, whichever suits you — online, by card. The deposit holds the vehicle and the date. If the survey changes the price and you would rather not go ahead, you get the full deposit back. Otherwise our terms and conditions set out what we charge if you postpone or cancel.

  4. Sort the paperwork in your own portal

You get a private page for your move: the customs checklist for France and somewhere to upload each document. If you listed your items one by one, that list is already there — add a rough value to each line and it becomes the valued inventory customs ask for.

  5. Collection in the UK, delivery in Marseille

On a shared load you choose the collection day and we give you a delivery window, confirming the day itself once the vehicle has cleared customs. With a vehicle of your own, both dates are yours. The balance is due on the day we collect.

Part-load prices from the UK to Marseille

Marseille is priced in Zone 4 — southern France, Bavaria, Switzerland, northern Italy. These are indicative part-load bands for the transport and the £180 customs documentation fee. Collection beyond 30 miles of our depots adds a mileage contribution, and packing, access and cover are priced from your own answers — each shows as its own line on your quote.

Getting a removal vehicle to your door in Marseille

  • One request to the City, fifteen days ahead

One online request to the City covers a space held beside your door, a lane narrowed, a bus lane used, or the street closed. It must reach the City complete fifteen days before the date. The 2019 framework order behind it makes prior municipal authorisation compulsory wherever a removal vehicle stands on public space, and the paper has to stay visible while the work runs.

  • Nobody hands you the signs

The City supplies no signs. Regulation no-parking boards carrying the vehicle-pound plate go up at least twenty-four hours ahead, with the order displayed and readable under each. Photographs of the whole run, number plates blurred, go by email to the municipal police, and the twenty-four hours starts only when that email lands. Without it, a car sitting on your space cannot be moved.

  • Behind the bollards is a separate procedure

The ordinary removal form turns you away if the address sits inside a bollarded pedestrian area. That goes to the Centre de Régulation Urbaine instead, at least five working days ahead, listing each vehicle. Ground loading decides what may enter: three and a half tonnes on Cours Julien, twelve on rue Saint-Ferréol, thirty-two in the other areas. Stopping only, twenty minutes at a time.

  • Hoists, and the streets with tram rails

A monte-meubles, an external furniture lift, is declared on the same request and authorised on the order itself. Whoever operates it fences off a zone to catch anything dropped, and marks a pedestrian route round that zone at least one metre forty wide. None may be worked in a street carrying the tramway unless the tramway works unit agrees.

  • The low-emission zone over the centre

The Métropole's Zone à Faibles Émissions mobilité is drawn round the centre, inside a ring of boulevards running from Cap Pinède and Capitaine Gèze through Sakakini and Jean Moulin to Rabatau and the Prado. Cars, two-wheelers, vans, lorries and coaches are all in scope, day and night. Whether your own vehicle is caught turns on its Crit'Air class, so check the zone page before you drive down.

How this shows up in your quote. The quote asks about each end of the move. Tick “parking suspension or permit required” or “narrow street” for the Marseille end and each is priced as its own line, along with the floor and whether there is a lift. A furniture hoist is not part of the online price: show us the stairs and windows at your survey and, where one is needed, it is priced then.

Where we deliver in and around Marseille

  • Le Panier

Marseille's oldest quarter, behind the Vieux-Port: alleys and stairways across three small hills. The tourist office tells visitors to be fit for the climb.

  • Noailles, Belsunce and Le Camas

Trois-fenêtres blocks predominate. A street door about seven metres across, one flat to each landing, and a tight winding stair above it.

  • Euroméditerranée — La Joliette and Arenc

The Cité scolaire internationale Jacques Chirac opened here, primary to classes préparatoires, with boarding. Trams along rue de la République govern whether a hoist is possible.

  • Boulevard Michelet

Le Corbusier's Cité Radieuse stands on it: duplexes with their own internal stairs, interior streets under three metres wide. Expect house rules on the common parts.

  • Bonneveine and Pointe-Rouge

The Prado tunnels are closed to lorries, so the run south goes over the surface or round the back of the city on the L2.

  • Aix-en-Provence

Its own permit, five days ahead, with nothing worked in the three daily peak windows. IBS of Provence at Luynes draws UK families.

  • Marignane and the Étang de Berre towns

Airbus Helicopters' main site is here, assembly lines included. Separate communes: the Marseille portal and its zone both stop short.

  • Cassis

A commune of its own. Each town car park holds under two hundred cars, with a relief park at Les Gorguettes and shuttles in.

The road from the UK to Marseille

Route: Eurotunnel or ferry into Calais, then autoroute all the way: Arras, Reims, Langres, Beaune, round Lyon, and down the Rhône on the A7 — about 660 miles from Calais.

The A7 is tolled as far as Rognac and untolled from there into the city; the A55 turns off for the port side, the L2 for the east, and which of those a vehicle takes is settled by the district long before it arrives. At Lyon a heavy lorry is signed round the Fourvière tunnel.

We collect anywhere in the UK. Collection is free within 30 miles of our Coulsdon depot; beyond that a mileage contribution applies and is shown in your quote.

When to move

  • The Foire, and the race over the Gineste

The Foire Internationale runs at Parc Chanot, beside the Stade Vélodrome, from 25 September to 5 October 2026, and the streets round the Rond-point du Prado are busier throughout. The Marseille–Cassis road race sends more than twenty thousand runners from the Vélodrome over the Gineste in late October, which is a weekend to avoid in the 8th, the 9th and Cassis itself.

  • Mistral mornings stop the hoist

The mistral funnels down the Rhône valley and blows hardest in winter and early spring, in gusts that can pass a hundred kilometres an hour. The removals order obliges whoever works a furniture lift to respect the manufacturer's limits on stability and load, so a gusty morning can turn a hoist job into a stair carry. High-sided vehicles feel it on the A7 as well.

  • The DDTM's Wednesday

Bouches-du-Rhône runs its own exemptions from the weekend ban on lorries over seven and a half tonnes, and the request goes to the DDTM by the Wednesday before. That makes a Saturday or Sunday date something to settle the week before rather than the day before, with a weekday as the only fallback.

Paperwork once you arrive in Marseille

  • No town hall takes your arrival

Marseille runs its business through the mairies de secteur as well as the Hôtel de Ville, and none of them registers an arrival: nobody takes your name at a counter, and no certificate comes back. The national change-of-address service will not take a move made from abroad either, so the tax office, health cover, the vehicle service and every utility account are opened one at a time.

  • The prefecture, and your driving licence

Residence for a Marseille address is the Préfecture des Bouches-du-Rhône's business, not the city's, and it is the office to ask about permits and appointments. A UK driving licence is a separate errand: it is exchanged through the national ANTS portal, using a check code obtained from the DVLA before you leave Britain.

Customs when moving to France

France applies EU transfer-of-residence relief. You will need a detailed valued inventory, proof of at least twelve months' UK residence, and evidence of a French address. Goods must have been owned and used for six months or more.

Moving from Marseille back to the UK

Load-outs here are mostly postings ending and retirements heading home. The street side works as it does inbound — the same authorisation, and the boards and the photographs still somebody's job on the ground. The British end adds one condition people trip over: for a year after the move, goods brought in under Transfer of Residence relief may not be sold, lent or used as security.

In the quote box, switch to “to the UK” and Marseille moves to the collection end.

Moving to Marseille — your questions

How much does a removal from the UK to Marseille cost?

Transport and customs documentation for a one-bedroom part load from the UK to Marseille cost £2,394 – £3,261, and for a three-bedroom house £5,352 – £7,376. Packing, transit cover and stairs or parking at either end are priced on top, from your own answers. Transit is 2–6 days door to door via Eurotunnel Folkestone–Calais. Small consignments travel as part loads from around £1,081 for roughly 5 m³. Your own price depends on volume, the packing and cover you choose, access at both ends and how flexible your dates are — the online quote works it out in about three minutes.

How long does a removal to Marseille take?

Transit to Marseille is typically 2–6 days door to door. We run weekly, both directions. A part load waits for its scheduled run and is given a delivery window; a dedicated vehicle travels direct on the date you choose.

Is on-street parking in central Marseille still chargeable while we load?

Assume it is. On-street parking in the central districts is chargeable Monday to Saturday, from nine in the morning until seven at night, under a concession the City has let out. Nowhere does the City say that a removal authorisation lifts the meter on a chargeable bay, so ask the Service Réglementation about your own street before the day.

Can a removal lorry use the Prado tunnels?

No — they are closed to lorries, and a tall van can be over the signed height as well, which a Luton body often is. The way south is the surface streets, or the L2 round the east and south of the city. Tell us the district when you book the survey, and the street if you know it.

Our street is too narrow for a full-size lorry. Is there an exemption?

Not for a removal. The City does grant tonnage and width derogations for deliveries, on fifteen days, and grants width ones only exceptionally. But the removals order says plainly that no derogation is given on vehicle length or width, either for the unloading zone or for the roads reaching it. On an old-town lane or a hillside street the answer is a smaller shuttle vehicle, so give us the street name early.

When will the bollards let a vehicle into a pedestrian street?

In the early-morning window, or with the Centre de Régulation Urbaine's own paper. The automatic bollards go down between six and ten in the morning, Monday to Saturday, and between eight and ten on Sunday. Outside that, the occasional-access authorisation is asked for at least five working days ahead, kept behind the windscreen, and the control room is telephoned half an hour before arrival.

We are on the fourth floor of a trois-fenêtres. What should the survey see?

The staircase, the street door and the window. A trois-fenêtres block runs about seven metres wide with one flat to a floor, and its stair winds round a single column, so the turns govern what can go up whole. Say which floor you are on and whether a lift will take a sofa on end, and show us the window a hoist could reach.

May the lorry just work from a delivery bay outside the door?

Not for long enough. Marseille caps an operation in a marked bay at fifteen minutes, and at twenty inside a pedestrian area. Loading away from a marked bay, on a road open to traffic, is barred between seven and nine in the morning and between five and seven at night, and at every hour inside the city-centre Zone à Trafic Régulé.

How do I book my move to Marseille?

Get your estimate online in about three minutes. You can secure your date straight away with a 25% deposit — refunded in full if the survey changes the price and you would rather not go ahead — or have the free survey first. Either way the survey fixes the price, and the balance is due on the day we collect. Your customs documents, inventory and dates are then handled in your own online portal.
